Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery is a common and highly effective procedure to restore clear vision when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy. This clouding, known as a cataract, can cause blurred or dim vision, glare, or difficulty seeing in bright or low light.

During surgery, the cloudy lens is gently removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens called an intraocular lens (IOL). The procedure is usually quick, performed under local anaesthetic, and most people go home the same day.

Vision often improves within a few days, and most patients find they can return to normal activities soon after.

Available Lens Options:

  • Monofocal IOL
  • Toric IOL
  • Multifocal IOL
  • Multifocal Toric IOL
  • Extended Depth of Focus (EDoF) IOL
  • EDoF Toric IOL

Private cataract surgery can be worth considering for several reasons

  1. Shorter Waiting Times: Private care often offers treatment two within a week, compared to potentially longer NHS waiting lists.
  2. Greater Lens Options: Private care offers a wider range of lenses, including options for astigmatism and presbyopia correction, reducing reliance on glasses for tasks like reading or using a computer.
  3. Choice of Consultant: Private treatment allows you to choose a consultant with the specific expertise and experience you prefer, ensuring a more personalised approach to your care.
