About
Consultant Cataract and Vitreoretinal Surgeon
Mr Syed Shahid is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon with over 15 years of experience. He earned his medical degree from the University of Bristol in 2010 and completed his foundation training in the South Thames Foundation School.
Mr Shahid holds a Masters in Clinical Ophthalmology from University College London and underwent Ophthalmology training in the North London Deanery, culminating in an 18-month fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital, an internationally renowned specialist eye hospital.
Clinical Lead, Kent & Medway DESP: Mr Shahid serves as Clinical Lead for the Kent & Medway Diabetic Eye Screening Programme (DESP), overseeing the delivery of diabetic eye care across the region and ensuring patients receive timely, high-quality screening and treatment.
He has contributed to peer-reviewed journals including Retina, the British Medical Journal, and the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, and has presented at numerous international conferences across the UK and Europe.
Outside of work, Mr Shahid enjoys playing tennis and cricket, as well as spending quality time with his family.
